Dominik Holec had a unique season in Baník
I touched on the performances of goalkeeper Dominik Holec in the previous article about transfers and today I will finish where I left off. After a not very successful stint in Sparta Prague and Poznan in Poland, Holec started to perform solidly in Karviná, which catapulted him to the jersey of Baník Ostrava. And the evaluation of the season? Unique as well as the performances and Holec proved that he is an elite goalkeeper. And it is good not only for BU1 that we have this guy in our ranks , but it is also good for the entire Chance League that such a goalkeeper is playing in it.
10 clean accounts
The experienced 30-year-old goalkeeper has played in 22 competitive matches this year and has kept ten clean sheets. He even recorded one clean sheet in the Conference League, when he won 2-0 in the rematch with Urartu. Although the Ostrava club was eliminated in the next qualifying round against Copenhagen, he left a great impression in Europe and a clean sheet in a European Cup match is a solid achievement.
Holec started this year as the number two, but the departure of Jakub Markovič to Slavia and the trust of the Baník management helped him become the permanent number one. He added clever, difficult matches with Plzeň or Sparta as a superstructure. And the ten points gained from these matches, when Holec was in goal, were the icing on the cake in Ostrava's campaign.
A solid pillar of defense
A goalkeeper as one of the pillars of the defense? Yes, in the case of Dominik Holec, this is a reality. When someone got through Baník's solid defense, Holec eliminated the danger. With his good passing, quick feet and reading of the game, he was an absolutely key player. When you have a goalkeeper behind you who can hold you back and play well, you play without stress.
Holec was also one of the best in the statistics of goals saved. With 2.85 goals, he was the fourth best in the league, scored a success rate of 78.3% and kept the average under one goal conceded per game. Similar statistics were also recorded by our other goalkeepers Matouš Trmal or Michal Reichl. What can I add? BU1 is going crazy!
Will Baník be in the Europa League?
If I focus on Baník in general, the team looks great. A balanced team with experienced players like Dominik Holec, young players like Matěj Šín or players in their prime like Jiří Boula. Baník broke the pattern of the established elite three of Czech clubs and the 71 points gained are proof of that.
If Baník can maintain its squad, strengthen it well and, above all, expand its squad, it will be a hot candidate for the league phase of the Europa League or even the Conference League. And it is good for the players, for the club and for all of Czech football.
