Dive with us into their world full of inspiration and incredible triumphs in life and football.
Petr Čech: The Return of the Great Goalkeeper
Petr Čech was born on May 20, 1982, in Plzeň. From a young age, he demonstrated his talent in the goalkeeper position, which was confirmed by defending the title of the best goalkeeper of the tournament at the U16 European Championship.
He began his professional career at Viktoria Plzeň, from where he moved to FK Chmel Blšany, where he made his first league debut. His career began to rise, and in 2001, AC Sparta Prague acquired him for 22 million. At just nineteen years old, he became the most expensive goalkeeper.
The real rise came after joining the English club Chelsea in 2004. His impenetrability, flawless saves, and team spirit made him an icon, and he soon became one of the most recognized goalkeepers in the world.
Head injury and the challenging road back
On October 14, 2006, Petr Čech suffered an injury during a match against Reading FC. In a collision with Irish midfielder Stephen Hunt, the goalkeeper sustained a skull fracture. The first few days looked grim. Petr was quite disoriented, but fortunately, after about four days, his memory returned.
The goalkeeper faced a difficult operation, during which excellent English neurosurgeons implanted titanium plates in his head. And perhaps thanks to his determination and resilience, the recovery took less time than the doctors expected. By January 2017, Petr Čech was back in the Premier League in a match against Liverpool. His head was protected by a special custom rugby helmet reinforced with polyethylene foam to absorb impacts, which he wore until the end of his career.
After returning stronger than ever
After returning to the game, Petr Čech continued to perform at the highest level and was one of Chelsea's key players. He won two more Premier League titles, four FA Cups, and three League Cups, for example. In the 2011/2012 season, he added a Champions League trophy to his achievements.
The Czech goalkeeper spent the last years of his football career at Arsenal, where he also enjoyed many successes.
Petr Čech's return to the top of football after such a serious injury truly signifies great will and perseverance. He will forever remain in the hearts of fans as a legend who never gave up and came back even stronger.
Jens Lehmann: The Great Return to Glory
The German goalkeeper, whose name is spoken with admiration on football fields around the world, was born on November 10, 1969, in Esslingen. He began his club career in 1989 with Schalke 04, where he stayed for a full ten years.
In 1997, he led his team to victory with an excellent maneuver, lifting the penalty shootout against Internazionale Milan and saving Iván Zamorano's attempt.
Lehmann's professional career continued through AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund to Arsenal London, where he signed a contract on July 25, 2003. In his first season, he played every match, helping Arsenal win the Premier League.
Although Lehmann is surrounded by a reputation for unconventional gestures and aggressive displays, he managed to maintain his place at the top.
Injury followed by a return to the pitch
Lehmann's journey to the top was marked by several challenges, but the biggest came in 2005. During a match against Reading FC, he suffered a serious shoulder injury, putting him out of action for an extended period. However, the goalkeeper did not give up. This was followed by a long and challenging rehabilitation requiring both physical and mental strength. Lehmann did not lose faith, and thanks to hard work, he was able to return to the pitch.
Successes and the story of returning to the game
After returning to football, Jens Lehmann showed that he truly had not lost his form. The goalkeeping skills that took him to the top did not abandon him even after the injury. Thanks to this, he helped Arsenal win the FA Cup in 2005. His uncompromising saves and strong will were among the driving forces of the team.
Iker Casillas: Victory over fate
Iker Casillas was born on May 20, 1981, in Móstoles, Spain, and showed his goalkeeping talent from a young age. He began his professional career in 1998 at Real Madrid, where he stayed until 2015 and became a star icon. He is symbolized by his long jumps during saves and excellent reflexes, which earned him the nickname 'the cat'.
Many matches he played for the Spanish national team, where he played a key role in its successes. He helped, among other things, to win the World Cup and twice at the European Championship.
Short recovery, long wait on the bench
In 2013, during a match against Valencia, Casillas suffered an injury from his own teammate, with whom he was simultaneously diving for the ball. Defender Alvaro Arbeloa tried to clear the ball after an opponent's corner and hit the goalkeeper's hand, resulting in a broken finger under his thumb.
Although the recovery lasted about two months, Casillas sat on the bench for nearly a year. At the time of his hand injury, Real Madrid decided to bring in a replacement from Sevilla, the experienced Diego López, who proved to be excellent. Coach Mourinho saw no reason to substitute the goalkeeper, even though Casillas was fit since March.
The Spanish goalkeeper got on the pitch only in the Champions League and the domestic cup. And although he won five league titles, two Champions League triumphs, and became the world's goalkeeper at Real Madrid, where he spent almost his entire life, he ultimately decided to transfer to FC Porto.
A heart attack doesn't have to mean the end
After years at the Portuguese club, another unexpected event occurred for the Spanish goalkeeper on the pitch, which ultimately became fateful for his career. During training, he experienced symptoms of a heart attack, which was eventually confirmed. Although the goalkeeper's life was not in danger, doctors advised him to end his professional career.
Casillas initially showed determination to return to the pitch. He even started training just two months after the heart attack. But ultimately, considering the doctors' recommendations, he decided to end his career as a professional athlete. However, he did not leave the football environment and returned to Real Madrid as an advisor to president Florentino Pérez.
Samuel Eto'o's repeated comebacks
The Cameroonian football striker was born on March 10, 1981, in Douala. During his professional football career, he represented several clubs such as Real Madrid, Mallorca, Barcelona, Inter Milan, Chelsea, and Everton.
On his football journey, he enjoyed many successes that led him to become one of the most recognized strikers in the world. As the only footballer, he managed to win the so-called treble twice in a row – the domestic league, the domestic cup, and the UEFA Champions League.
Injuries and challenges he faced
Samuel Eto'o, then playing for Barcelona, suffered a knee injury during a Champions League match in September 2006, which sidelined him for an extended period. He was very lucky that there was no meniscus injury. According to doctors, removing it would have caused biomechanical changes in the knee, which could later negatively affect the player's performance.
After a few months off, Samuel Eto'o returned to the pitch in full strength. In the 2008/2009 season, he scored 30 league goals and won three trophies with the team – La Liga, Copa del Rey, and the Champions League.
The knee issues persisted later.
Complications arose for the striker a few years later, although this time with less severe consequences. In 2014, he suffered another knee injury during the World Cup in Brazil. Fortunately, the recovery only lasted a few days. Samuel Eto'o also admitted that he had been struggling with knee problems since the end of the English league and didn't have time to heal them properly.
Strong will and successes until the end
Despite repeated knee problems, which are among the biggest fears in football, Samuel Eto'o managed to stay in excellent shape. He showed success in both his club and international career. He announced the end of his football activities on September 7, 2019.

None of the men lacked courage and strong will during the challenging journey of long-term recovery. Because they all had a clear and common goal – to return to the pitch.
